World Blood Donor Day
World Blood Donor Day was established on June 14 every year is celebrated and made an annual event by the World Health Organization since 2004. It is a celebration to honor and thank the volunteers who have responded to the call for addressing the needs of donating blood and blood components are increasingly increased worldwide.
World Blood Donor Day celebration are intended to reward and honor donors who helped save the lives of patients. In addition to promoting awareness of the public, in general, about the importance of safe blood donation services voluntarily, it also gave a boost to existing blood donors to donate regularly and always voluntarily without expecting any reward or remuneration.
Based on the experience gained from the International Blood Donor Day since 1995 and World Health Day 2000, which focused on blood safety, World Blood Donor Day inaugural meeting was held on June 14, 2004. Following this initiative and widespread interest, the World Health Assembly in Geneva on May 23, 2005 has been to adopt a resolution WHA58.13 World Blood Donor Day set as the event on June 14 every year and widespread calls for international support in jointly promote and provide World Blood Donor Day every year. This date was chosen in conjunction with the anniversary of the birth of Dr. Karl Landsteiner, a Nobel laureate with the discovery of the ABO Blood Group.
​World Blood Donor Day 2006
For the first time, Brunei Darussalam has entered JPDS Celebration on Thursday 29 of June 2006, at the Atrium, The Mall Gadong. The guest of honor at the ceremony was Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, Minister of Health, Brunei Darussalam. WBDD 2006 theme is"I am a blood donor, and I save lives". This theme emphasizes the importance of blood as a product that can not be exchanged for help to save those who are involved in an accident, surgery, cancer patients and people with blood diseases such as anemia and thalassemia so that they are able to live a normal life.
In conjunction to WBDD 2006, Presentation Certificates of Appreciation and a souvenir plaque was presented to 154 blood donors who have donated blood 40 times over was completed by the Guest of Honour the Minister of Health. the Minister of Health call on non-governmental organizations and professional bodies through the Special Message from the Honourable Minister, to cooperate with the Ministry of Health in developing programs to donate blood and equally convincing quality of blood donation. He is pleased to express our appreciation and thanks to all donors and hope that they continue the practice of virtuous it by donating blood regularly and voluntarily.
Umrah packages in the form of Gold Coins and Gifts were presented to the top donors, Awang Haji Abdullah bin Haji Bunchit, along with other incentives provided as a token of appreciation. Umrah package was sponsored by Darussalam Holdings Sdn Bhd while Souvenirs Gold Coins were donated by the Ministry of Health

Ministry of Health, Brunei Darussalam, through the Department of Laboratory Services has welcomed the World Blood Donor Day 2007 on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at the Lobby, Lobby Outpatient Hospital Raja Wife Pg Anak Saleha, Bandar Seri Begawan. The guest of honor at the ceremony was Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Defense Royal Dato Paduka Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah, Deputy Minister of Health, Brunei Darussalam.
He express the appreciation and thanks to all donors and call on the public to come forward to becoming blood donors and to blood donors who have registered for the service they continue to donate blood regularly and voluntarily without expecting any reward .
WBDD 2007 theme is "Safe Blood for Safe Motherhood". This theme aims to raise awareness about the importance of safe blood to save the mothers who experience bleeding during childbirth.
In conjunction with World Blood Donor Day 2007, the Blood Donation Centre, Hospital Hospital, held an Open Day. Among the activities were a mini exhibition displaying posters containing data on blood collection as well as the activities of Blood Donation Centre, King's Wife Hospital Pg Anak Saleha, in recent years. A donation campaign has also been initiated on the day.

World Blood Donor Day Celebration 2008 was held on Saturday, June 14, 2008 held at the Plaza Central, Complex Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Bandar Seri Begawan. The guest of honor at the event was Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Defense Royal Dato Paduka Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah, Acting Minister of Health.
Ministry of Health through the Department of Laboratory Services and the Royal Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has become the Landlord Together in Celebration WBDD 2008 in conjunction with Dubai as the selected host to welcome 2008 WBDD global celebration.
The council has also graced with the presence of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Mohamed Jameel Abdul Jaleel Hashim. Also present were senior officers of the Ministry of Health, Deputy Commander of the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Brunei Darussalam and Special Guests from various organizations.
In the ceremony, Pehin state even blood donation status each year are at the sufficient level, there is still the need to stabilize the stock in the Blood Bank. Pehin urged the public, especially the youths, to come forward and donate blood on a regular basis in line with the theme WBDD 2008, "Giving Blood Regularly".
Amongst the events at the event was the presentation of a token of appreciation to the administrators group of blood donors representatives from Ministries, Government Departments, Institutions of Higher Education, Teachers College, Schools and Private Sector Companies. A documentary about the process of donation and blood transfusion were also presented. Blood Donation Campaign in conjunction to WBDD 2008, which operated all day on the Complex Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah has managed to collect of total about 180 units of blood.

World Blood Donor Day Celebration 2009 was held on Sunday, June 14 2009 at the Health Promotion, Minister of Road. The guest of honor at the ceremony was Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, Minister of Health, Brunei Darussalam.
The theme is "100 Percent Voluntary Non-remunerated Donation of Blood and Blood Components". This theme was chosen to give the opportunity to all countries in the world is focused on the concept of "altruistic" donation. Regular blood donors is not only recognized as the safest blood donors but they are also fundamental in providing adequate blood supply and always available. Intensify efforts to increase the number of blood donors on a regular basis, in order to maintain blood donor group and the corresponding components that can be called at any time as needed.
Countries that have not yet reached 100 percent donation of blood and its components should seek a voluntary basis through an innovative program to invite community members, especially the youth to join the national blood donation program which is a step to stop the blood replacement system from family and paid blood donation.
Countries that have achieved 100 per cent blood donation and voluntary components are appropriately enhance their efforts to increase the number of blood donors on a regular basis and ensure that the blood supply is always sufficient to meet the requirements of the State in either routine or emergency situation.
In conjunction to WBDD 2009, the "Handbook Blood Donation" also officiated by the Honourable Minister. The book provides guidelines for blood donation is safe to transfused blood. A short drama sketch is also presented by the staff of Laboratory Services Department before mass aerobics session and the opening of the exhibition and stalls.
The minister of health express his feeling of joy and expecting a new generation of Brunei Darussalam, especially the youth, will come forward to meet this challenge and will indirectly encourage them to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Ministry of Health, Brunei Darussalam, through the Department of Laboratory Services has welcomed World Blood Donor Day 2010 on Monday, June 14 2010 at the Multipurpose Hall Katok Sixth Form Centre, Kampong Katok 'B'. The guest of honor at the ceremony was Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Md. Yusof, Minister of Health, Brunei Darussalam.
WBDD 2010 theme is "New Blood for the World" with a campaign focused on the younger generation of blood donors aged between 18 to 24 years. Accordingly, the Mnister express his hope that the younger generation will be able to perform and together play a role and instill a spirit of responsibility in providing role models to the public for the equally donate blood regularly and voluntarily in order to help the patients who really need blood.
In conjunction WBDD 2010, a song 'Noble Act' has been created specially for donors. Lyrics by Hjh Mariam Binti Haji Md Jaafar and the band "A Band Once" was presented by the band alone with the set of The "XP Choir" team at the ceremony. The event was celebrated with the presentation of a gift of appreciation to Top Young Donors of both male and female categories and prizes to winners of Painting / Poster among secondary schools in conjunction compatriots WBDD 2010.
