​Few donation tips for you!

 

By following a few tips on preparation before, during and after blood donation, you can help yourself, to get the

blood donation experience safe, successful and enjoyable donation.

 

 

​Before donation

 

  • Maintain a healthy level of iron in your diet by eating foods rich in iron, such as red meat, fish, poultry, beans, spinach, iron-fortified cereals and raisins.

 

  • Get enough sleep.

 

  • Drink an additional 16 oz. water or non-alcoholic fluids before donating.

 

  • Eating healthy foods before donating. Avoid fatty foods like burgers, fries or ice cream before donating. (Fatty foods can affect laboratory tests done on your blood. If there is too much fat in your blood, donated blood can not be tested and blood will not be used for transplantation).

 

  • If you are a platelet donor, your body system must be free of aspirin is not less than two days before donating.

 

  • Do not forget to bring your donor card, identity card, driving license or other photo ID card.

 

 

 

​During donation

 

  • Wear clothes that can be folded sleeves above the elbow.

 

  • Let the person who takes your blood if you have a choice of arms and show them a good vein that has been used previously to take your blood.

 

  • Relax, listen to music, talk with other donors or read during the donation process .

 

 

 

 

​After donation

 

  • Drink an additional four (8 ounce) glasses of fluids and avoid alcohol consumption within the next 24 hours.

 

  • Open bandage one hour after donation.

 

  • Do not do any heavy work or exercise for the whole day after donation.

 

  • If the injection site starts to bleed, press it and lift your arms straight for about 5-10 minutes or until the bleeding stops.If you feel dizzy or faint after the donation, stop what you are doing and sit or lie down until you feel better. Avoid doing any activity for at least 24 hours because of fainting could cause injury.

 

  • Contact us at 2242424 extension 7338/7124/7125 to report any health information that you forgot to tell us, or if you have any problem or if you should need medical treatment after donating blood.
